Man charged in Kansas City gas station killing

KANSAS CITY —A 29-year-old Kansas City man has been charged in the fatal shooting on March 14, outside a gas station in the 8100 block of Bannister Road in Kansas City, according to Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker.

Camoi Hendricks, 29,  faces charges of Murder 2nd Degree, and Armed Criminal Action.

According to court records, Kansas City police were dispatched on March 14, to the 8100 block of Bannister Road on a reported shooting. Officers found a Lexus parked at the gas pump. What appeared to be a bullet hole was in the driver's side window.

A man was slumped over in the driver's seat. He was pronounced deceased later at the hospital. The victim was identified as 34-year-old Kirk Whittaker.

Surveillance video showed the suspect entering the store. It also showed him leaving the store and entering the victim's vehicle on the passenger side. The suspect remains in the vehicle for several minutes, then exits and walks over to his vehicle, walks back to the victim's vehicle and leans on the victim's vehicle. He is then seen leaving the station at a high rate of speed. The victim is found shortly later suffering from gunshot wounds..

Hendricks is being held on a $500,000 bond.
