GREAT BEND — Cheyenne Bottoms in northern Barton County is well known for an amazing variety of birds that live and migrate through the wetlands. The species of birds that can be seen there changes throughout the year.

Employees at the Kansas Wetlands Education Center keep track of the birds that are sighted at any given time. Curtis Wolf, the Center's director, said it is easy to find out what species are in the area.

"We do have a recent sightings list that we post on our website,” Wolf explained. “We’ll update it every couple of weeks usually just to give people an idea of the things that can be seen. That's a good way of figuring out a little bit about what’s there.”

A link to the Center's website can be found in this story on HERE.

The Education Center is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. It is closed on Mondays. Wolf says 30-minute and 90-minute van tours of Cheyenne Bottoms are available to individuals or groups and have been a popular family activity this year.
