Deputies catch wanted Kan. suspect during New Year's Day traffic stop

JACKSON COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating two suspects for drug possession after a New Year's Day traffic stop.

Just before 9a.m. Saturday, a sheriff's deputy stopped a vehicle in the area of Northbound U.S. 75 Highway and Columbine Drive for a traffic infraction, according to Sheriff Tim Morse.

During the stop, a quantity of methamphetamine and a hallucinogenic drug was located in the vehicle.

Jessica Lynn Andrews, 40, of Topeka, was arrested on requested charges that include possession of methamphetamine, possession of a hallucinogenic drug, possession of drug paraphernalia, and transporting an open container.

Deputies also arrested Russell Washington IV, 36, of Axtell, on requested charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of a hallucinogenic drug, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving while suspended. Washington also had several outstanding warrants from Shawnee County, Marshall County, and the Topeka Police Department, according to Morse.
