SEDGWICK COUNTY— The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal vehicle-pedestrian crash that occurred on Wednesday in south Sedgwick County.

At approximately 4 p.m., deputies, along with Mulvane EMS and Sedgwick County Fire District 1, responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in the 11800 block of South Meridian, according to sheriff's department spokesman Branden Stitt.

Despite life-saving efforts, the pedestrian, identified as 15-year-old Connor Dane Chavez-Garcia of the area, died at the scene.

Detectives and the Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Team are investigating the incident. Based on preliminary information, investigators believe Chavez-Garcia was attempting to cross Meridian in front of his home when a 2000 Ford F-350 pickup pulling a small grain hopper trailer struck him.

At this time, investigators do not believe speed or impairment contributed to the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
