ATCHISON COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a vehicle theft and have made an arrest.
Just after 8p.m. Tuesday, Terry Smith Jr. reported the theft of a 2011 Volkswagen Passat from the 1500 Block of Main Street in Atchinson, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.
Smith and the suspect identified as 23-year-old Kristina A. Smith of Independence, Mo., know each other and were in the Volkswagen in the 1500 block Main when Smith got out the vehicle to retrieve something left at a nearby car wash.
The suspect, Kristina Smith, drove off with the car.
At 9:30a.m. Wednesday, police located the suspect and the vehicle at K-7 and 330th Road where the vehicle had run out of gas. Police arrested her and she remains in custody, according to online jail records. Police have not reported requested charges in the case.
