WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Jerry Moran delivered a keynote speech at the ceremony to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge in Bastogne, Belgium.
The ceremony was held at the Battle of the Bulge Memorial in Bastogne and included WWII veterans from the Battle of the Bulge, Members of Congress and European leaders.
Sen. Moran also attended the 80th Anniversary ceremony at the Luxembourg American Cemetery where over 5,000 Americans are buried.“Eighty years after the Battle of the Bulge we remember the cost paid by those who died here,” said Sen. Moran. “Time cannot dim the glory of their deeds.”
“There is a smaller memorial to the veterans of the Battle of the Bulge in Abilene, Kansas at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library that bears an inscription that I will end with here today, it reads: ‘let us be glad that such heroes have lived, and mourn those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.’
“Let us indeed be glad that such heroes have lived, and let us strive to live our lives in a manner worthy of their sacrifice.”
