
KANSAS CITY — A Kansas City man faces charges connection with the fatal shooting of a teenage boy that occurred in 2023.
Taron Anderson, 21, faces 2nd Degree Murder and Unlawful Use of Weapon; shooting at a person, according Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson.
Anderson was a juvenile at the time of the shooting. Family Court certified him to stand trial as an adult and the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office then officially charged him.
According to court records, a shooting victim was transported to the hospital on January 8, 2023, and was pronounced deceased. The shooting originally occurred in front of a residence in south Kansas City.
Based on witness reports and doorbell video footage, detectives determined the shooting occurred when Anderson attempted to rob the victim at gunpoint during a marijuana sale. Anderson agreed to purchase marijuana from the victim. Anderson pulled out a firearm and fired several shots at the victim and then fled.
A Jackson County judge set the defendant’s bond at $150,000 cash only.
