Update: Pedestrian struck, killed by train in So. Central Kan.

SEDGWICK — One person has been killed in a train/ pedestrian accident Monday morning.

According to Kyle McCaskey with the Harvey County Sheriff’s Department the accident happened around 5 a.m. when a male was hit by a BNSF train in the 6100 block of South West Road which is about six miles southwest of Newton near the town of Sedgwick.

The investigation into the accident continues at this time. Trains were brought to a halt on the line which runs through Newton for about three hours during the initial investigation. 

No name was released.

SEDGWICK—Train traffic through Newton was blocked Monday morning due to an early morning fatal train/pedestrian accident.

Dispatch reported that trains were moving shortly after 8 a.m., but there is a four-hour backlog, so it may take time to clear out.
