COWLEY COUNTY—Search crews have finally found human remains near where a missing Kansas woman's car was found last month.

On Wednesday, the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of local landowners, continued search efforts in the area of 333rd Road for missing 81-year-old Jerry McConnell, according to Cowley County Undersheriff Christina McDonald.

During the course of the search, personal property belonging to McConnell was located. Human remains were also discovered approximately one mile from the location where her abandoned vehicle was previously found.

An autopsy is pending to confirm the identity of the remains.

This discovery follows weeks of intensive search operations. On May 20, 2025, at approximately 3:40 p.m., Cowley County Deputies were notified that a vehicle associated with a Silver Alert issued from Overland Park, Kansas, had been found on private property in a rural area near the 4000 block of 327th Road.

Despite daily search efforts since the vehicle was located, no further leads were developed until the discovery on June 11.
