Crews rescue dog from fire in rural southwest Kansas

FINNEY COUNTY—Fire crews saved a dog during a fire at building in rural southwest Kansas.

On Monday, the Garden City Fire Department reported crews were dispatched just after 8:30 a.m. October 17, to the report of a building fire at 4552 E. Highway 50 in  Garden City, according to a media release. 

Command found heavy smoke and fire coming from a single story rural building. 

Personnel established a water supply and completed initial knockdown of the fire. Engine 2 personnel completed primary and secondary searches of the structure and successfullym removed one dog to safety.

The fire was called under control at approximately 12:23 p.m.

Fire Investigator Andy Crittenden determined the cause of the fire was was accidental. Authorities have not released a damage estimates. Other than the dog, the building was not occupied.
