KANSAS CITY —Fire crews had to overcome a hydrant issue while fighting an apartment fire in Kansas City on Tuesday.
Just after 8:30a.m., crews responded to a reported apartment fire in the 3200 Block of St. John Avenue, according to Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins.

Crews reported heavy smoke and fire showing from a three-story occupied apartment building. Heavy fire was located on both the second and third floors. Searches of the structure came back all clear. No injuries were reported during this operation. On arrival the first hydrant that was secured was found to be inoperable. A second water source was secured in front of the structure on Indiana.
Fortunately the inoperable hydrant did not hinder operations. It will be reported to the water department for maintenance. The cause of the fire is under investigation by KCFD.
