Hays Senior Eagles cruise past Smith Center

HAYS - The Hays Senior Eagles raced out to an 8-0 lead after the first two innings and cruised to a 10-2 five inning run-rule win over the Smith Center Blue Raiders Wednesday night at Hays High School.

All of the Eagles players were wearing their high school uniforms for the game after all had their prep season's canceled this spring due to the coronavirus outbreak.

TMP-Marian seniors Brady Kreutzer and Carson Jacobs both had two hits. Jacobs drove in two runs and scored twice.

The Eagles (10-0) scored three runs in the first inning then took control with five runs in the second. Brock Lummus drove in the first two runs with a single to left. Carson Jacobs followed with a two-run single. Lummus capped off the big inning by stealing home.

Jack Fields (1-0) allowed one run on one hit over three innings and picked up the win in his first start of the season. Fields had four strikeouts and walked two. Carson Jacobs pitched the final two innings and struck out four and walked two.

The Eagles are back in action Thursday afternoon at the Kansas Grand Slam Wood Bat Tournament in Salina. They open pool play against the Kansas Senators at 2:30 p.m. at James Matson Field.

The Junior Eagles are in the 16U division of the same tournament. They open Thursday at 10 a.m. against the Topeka Scrappers then play Omaha Sportsclips at 4:45 p.m.
