COWLEY COUNTY —One Kansas school district is starting holiday break early due to sickness across the district.

On their social media page USD 471 Dexter wrote, "we are going through a tremendous amount of sickness right now and it seems to be spreading at a very high rate."

"Due to a high number of students and staff illnesses and the rate at which it continues to climb the school dismissing for the semester Monday afternoon." "All scheduled end of the semester activities, extra curricular activity competitions, and classes starting Tuesday will be postponed, canceled, and/or rescheduled for a later date in the 2nd Semester."

Not only are we concerned with student and staff sickness now we don't want to continue to spread the sickness and end up with students taking it to their extended families over the holiday break.

"We appreciate your understanding as we work to keep our students, staff, and school community healthy.' The community is located approximately 70 miles southeast of Wichita.
