Kan. man dead, woman hospitalized after crash with teen driver

JACKSON COUNTY—One person died in an accident just after 11a.m. Wednesday in Jackson County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2011 Chevy Silverado driven by  Wyatt Edward Lee Shields, 16, Holton, was eastbound on 190th Road crossing U.S. 75 Highway.

The driver failed to yield and pulled out in front of a northbound 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan driven by Allison Renee Lee, 26, Effingham.  The two vehicles collided at the intersection.

A passenger in the van identified as Scott Edward Reaka, 52, Topeka, was pronounced dead at the scene.  Responding fire departments and EMS extricated Lee from the van, according to Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse. Lifestar Air Ambulance transported her to K.U. Medical Center. EMS treated Shields at the scene.

All three were properly restrained, according to the KHP.
