Kansas man airlifted to hospital after May 9 crash died

HARVEY COUNTY—The driver of a maintenance vehicle injured in an accident on May 9 in Harvey County has died. William Fairbrother 54, of Newton died the following day, according to the Harvey County Sheriff's Office.

The maintenance vehicle turned over on East First Street between Oliver and Woodlawn roads, according to a social media report from the Harvey Sheriff's Department.  Fairbrother was found, pinned inside the truck in critical condition.  Crews worked diligently for just over an hour to free him cutting away parts of the cab and using hydraulic spreaders and rams to gain access, according to Newton Fire and EMS.

Eagle Med air-lifted him to Wesley Medical Center.

First Street was closed between Oliver and Woodlawn for several hours as maintenance crews worked to get the vehicle upright and cleaning up spilled diesel fuel.
