GRANT COUNTY —Lightning is believed to have caused three grass fires on Thursday in Grant County.
Just after 4:30p.m. crews responded to the fires along East Hampton Road between South Road L and South Road M, according to the Grant County Rural Fire.
District Fire Management Officer, Aaron Williams and the Kansas Forest Service contracted Single Engine Air Tankers assisted in fighting the fires, according to a social media report from the Forest Service.
Departments from five surrounding counties also assisted with the fires.
The wind diminished, and the forward progression of the fire was stopped at approximately 9p.m.
Acreages have not been determined but they are expected to be significant. Fire resources remained engaged on fires near homes patrolling for embers and spot fires overnight. There were no injuries reported.
