BARTON COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect for alleged child sex crimes.
Just after 8:30 p.m. Saturday, sheriff's deputies responded to a location just south of Great Bend to investigate a reported sex offense involving a juvenile, according to Sheriff Brian Bellendir.
On Sunday afternoon, deputies arrested 33-year-old Gary Smith, of Great Bend on requested charges of rape and aggravated criminal sodomy. He is being held on a $1 million bond, according to Bellendir.
