SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas felon for alleged theft involving horses.

Just before midnight Saturday, sheriff's deputies responded to the 8100 block of SE California Avenue to check the welfare of a woman, according to Sheriff Brian Hill.

The caller was on his way home with a trailer full of horses, when he was flagged down by a woman. The caller notified law enforcement and continued home.

Once at his residence, the caller was unloading horses, when someone stole his truck and proceeded to drive away with several horses inside. The caller was able to catch up to the driver nearby and notify law enforcement of their location.

Deputies arrived and placed the woman identified as 35-year-old Brianna M. Nowack into custody.
 All horses were accounted for and none were harmed.

 Nowak was booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges of theft from a motor vehicle, theft of a motor vehicle and theft of all other. She has a previous conviction for attempted aggravated arson and had absconded four times since 2020, according to the Kansas Dept. of Corrections-
