TOPEKA —Just over two weeks before the general election, Derek Schmidt, the Republican candidate for Kansas governor and three-term attorney general, shared a video from President Trump to Kansans.
Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly is the only Democratic governor running for reelection in a state carried by former President Donald Trump in 2020. Kelly won the office in 2018 against a fiery conservative after running as a moderate who promoted bipartisanship.
Trump's Vice President Mike Pence came to Wichita Friday to campaign for Schmidt. "It really comes down, right now, to the failed policies of the Biden administration, which Laura Kelly has supported every step of the way," Pence said.
Polls suggest the race between Kelly and Schmidt is very close. As of Sunday evening, The "Race to the WH" website gave both candidates a 50-50 chance of winning.
