KANSAS CITY—Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson announced charges against a Kansas City man in connection with a shooting that occurred October 18.
Khyree L. Simmons, 37, faces 2nd Degree Murder, two counts of Armed Criminal Action, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
According to court records, Kansas City police responded to a shooting near East 42nd Street and Forest Avenue on October 18 and located a female victim laying in the street with a gunshot wound to her chest. She was later declared deceased.
Surveillance video captured a gray sedan in the area as the victim sat along the sidewalk. The gray sedan honked the horn one time. The victim stood up and walked toward the vehicle. A female voice could be heard speaking, and the victim appeared to be pointing east. One single gunshot was heard and the victim fell.
Detectives used several investigative tools, including city camera footage, to identify the defendant.
The defendant is being held without bond
