KCPD: Driver arrested after toddler, teen ejected in crash

KANSAS CITY —Law enforcement are investigating a single-vehicle accident that critically injured two children.

Just before 11:30p.m. Saturday, a Dodge Charger was westbound on 23rd Street at Stark Avenue at a high rate of speed, according to .Officer Alayna Gonzalez

The driver lost control and the car traveled off the road. The vehicle struck a roadway sign, shearing it off at the base, and started flipping over.

The car crossed over the eastbound lanes of 23rd Street, struck the rock wall and landed on its wheels.

An unrestrained 2-year-old and 13-year-old were ejected from the vehicle. A 10-year-old and an adult female passenger, although unrestrained, remained in the back seat of the car.

The driver, who was not injured in the collision, was taken into custody for alleged impairment. EMS transported the toddler and  teen to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries.  Police released no additional details.
