SW Kan. homeowner watched burglary remotely via a security camera

FINNEY COUNTY: —A Garden City man’s fence-hopping escape plan fell flat after he was arrested for burglary over the weekend.

Just before 10:30 p.m. Saturday, police were dispatched to the 1100 block of W. Campbell Street in Garden City for a reported burglary in progress, where a suspect broke into an apartment, stole property, and fled the scene, according to a media release from police.

The resident, who was not home at the time, witnessed the break-in remotely via a security camera and immediately called police. After arriving, Officers learned the suspect, identified as Victor Viurquez, 34, was actively jumping fences throughout the neighborhood to avoid being captured.

After a brief search, Viurquez was located in a nearby alley and taken into custody. Viurquez is being held in the Finney County Jail on requested charges of Burglary, multiple counts of Criminal Trespass, and multiple counts of Criminal Damage. No injuries were reported, and the Finney County Sheriff’s Office and the Kansas Highway Patrol assisted with the incident.
