Man dies after train strikes SUV in southwest Kansas

SEWARD COUNTY —One person died in an accident just before 4:30p.m. Friday in Seward County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2003 Chevy Suburban driven by David Vargas, 35, Hooker, Oklahoma, was southbound at the intersection on Main Street and Saint Louis at the Southwestern Railway crossing in Kismet.

The SUV traveled around the railroad crossing arm. An eastbound train struck the SUV. Vargas was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to Hornung Funeral Home. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.
