KANSAS CITY— Two firefighters avoided serious injuries while fighting a blaze at a townhome.
Just after 7:30p.m. Wednesday, crews responded to a reported apartment fire in the 1600 block of Brooklyn in Kansas City, Missouri, according to Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins.
Crews reported smoke and fire showing from a vacant two-story townhome on arrival. During the search of the building, a firefighter fell through the floor and a "Mayday" call was put out.
The firefighter was quickly found and escorted out of the structure. The firefighter was evaluated on scene. No transport was necessary. A second firefighter unrelated to the mayday was transported for evaluation for a minor injury, according to Hopkins.
Authorities have not released the cause of the fire or additional details.
