SHAWNEE COUNTY —Two people were injured in a house fire on Monday in Shawnee County.

Just after 6p.m. crews responded to the fire in a two-story house at 1278 SW Lincoln Avenue, according to Topeka Fire Dept. spokesperson Rosie Nichols.

During their initial search, firefighters located a woman trapped on the second floor of the home. Firefighters rescued her and treated her on the scene. She was then transported to a local hospital by American Medical Response (AMR) with life threatening injuries.

All other occupants were able to escape before the fire department arrived.  Emergency crews also transported a man to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

After a preliminary investigation the fire cause remains undetermined. The origin of the fire was determined to have been in a bedroom on the second floor.

The total damage is estimated to be $30,000, with $20,000 associated with structural loss and $10,000 associated with content loss. Investigators did not find working smoke detectors in the home, according to Nichols.
