RENO COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas home invasion robbery and have a suspect in custody.
Just after 10:35 a.m. Tuesday, police were dispatched to report of an armed robbery the 1000 block of North Main Street in Hutchinson, according to Hutchinson Police.
An 82-year-old woman reported hearing someone rattling the back door of her residence. Moments later she walked out of her house and confronted an unknown white male suspect in her yard.
The suspect displayed what she believed was a large knife, verbally threatened her, and demanded she give him money. The victim was able to make her way to a nearby business to contact police and seek shelter.
The suspect, later identified as 35-year-old Preston L. Lewis, briefly entered the business as well, where he caused a verbal disturbance with employees.
Officers made contact with Lewis at the business. He was uncooperative and battered one of the officers while being taken into custody.
Lewis is being held on requested charges of Aggravated Robbery, Battery LEO, Aggravated Criminal Threat, Interference with Law Enforcement, two counts of Disorderly Conduct, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He has previous convictions for criminal threat and drugs, according to the Kansas Dept. of Corrections
No injuries were reported by any of the victims.
