
DOUGLAS COUNTY – Law enforcement authorities investigating the shooting death of a teen in Lawrence on Saturday have a suspect in custody.
On Sunday afternoon, 17-year-old Derrick Del Reed turned himself in and police transported him to the Douglas County Juvenile Detention Center, according to police department spokesperson Laura McCabe. Police also located Reed's 2015 Chrysler 300 within the city limits, and it was processed by investigators.

Just after 5p.m. Saturday, police in Lawrence along with Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, arrived at 1100 Block of E. 13th Street in Lawrence to find a teen who had been shot. EMS transported the teen to a local hospital where he later died, according to police spokesperson Laura McCabe.
Witnesses told police the teen arrived at the apartment complex address wounded, but the shooting occurred in the 1300 block of Maple Lane.
Investigators worked overnight to identify possible suspects and asked for the public’s help in locating Reed.

Investigators have interviewed several witnesses and have evidence to believe the parties are known to each other.
