Child struck by vehicle in crosswalk near Kan. elementary school

SEDGWICK COUNTY —On Tuesday morning, an elementary school student was hit by a vehicle while using a crosswalk inside a school zone near Derby Hills Elementary, 2230 North Woodlawn inm Derby, according to a media release from Derby Fire and EMS.

The child’s injuries do not appear to be severe or life-threatening.

"The incident is a reminder of just how quickly something can happen and why extra caution in school zones is so important."

Derby Fire and EMS reminded, "When driving near a school, please anticipate children walking, riding bikes, and crossing the street. Slow down, stay off your phone, watch every crosswalk, and give buses, crossing guards, parents, pedestrians, and other drivers a little extra patience."
