SHAWNEE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a shooting and have a suspect in custody.
At 5:30 a.m. Saturday, police were working a call in the 1700 block of SW Clay in Topeka when they saw a disturbance in the 1800 block of SW Clay, according to Police Lt. Kelvin Johnson.
As the officers were approaching the disturbance, they heard gun shots saw people running. Two individuals were detained and found to be the victims of an aggravated assault.
Information led them to a residence on that block where the suspect had run back into. Police surrounded the house and they called the suspect out where he was eventually taken into custody.
The suspect was identified as Jerome C. Vetaw, 42 of Topeka. Police arrested and booked him into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges of Aggravated Assault, Criminal Possession of a Firearm and Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Sell, according to Johnson.
