Police: Kansas man attacked wife with cordless drill

COWLEY COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas man on suspicion of battery and drug charges following a domestic disturbance.

Just before 3a.m. Tuesday, police were dispatched to the 800 block of South A Street in Arkansas City for a report of a disturbance resulting in injuries, according to a media release from police.

Officers contacted the alleged victim, a 47-year-old Arkansas City woman who reported her husband struck her several times with his hands and also struck her in the head multiple times with a cordless drill.

As a result, the victim sustained significant injuries to her head and face.  EMS transported her to South Central Kansas Medical Center for treatment of injuries.

The suspect, identified as Robert Ladd Embrey, 47, allegedly fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival. Police located him late Tuesday took into custody without incident.

A search of the scene during the investigation turned up marijuana and other drug-related items.

Embrey is being held in the Cowley County Jail in Winfield on a $50,000 bond on requested charges of aggravated battery, battery-domestic violence, criminal restraint, criminal threat, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.
