Suspect charged in cold case murder of Kansas man

WYANDOTTE COUNTY— A 24-year-old man has has been charged by the Wyandotte County District Attorney’s Office with first-degree felony murder in the 2018 Cold Case shooting death of 20-year-old KC Gillespie of Edwardsville, Kansas, according to police.

On March 11 of 2018, police responded to a fatal traffic crash in the parking lot of the Forest Glen Estates Apartments, 511 N 64 St, Kansas City, Kansas, according to a media release.

First responders found Gillespie dead from a gunshot wound inside a white SUV that crashed into a tree.

Gillespie is survived by his fiancee and a 2-year-old daughter, according to his obituary.

Carter is being held in the Moberly, Missouri, Correctional Center,  serving a 15-year sentence the 2022 shooting death of 24-year-old Cardell Crawford in the Westport Entertainment District.
