SEDGWICK COUNTY—A Kansas man accused of double homicide in Wichita made his first appearance in court Friday.
Charles Crawford, 62, Wichita, is charged with one count of Capital Murder for the deaths of 58-year-old Donald Eckert and 50-year=old Vanessa Crawford, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.
On Tuesday, a woman dropping off her child at an in-home daycare saw the two homicide victims through a window of a home in the 1100 Block of North Woodrow, according to Officer Kris Gupilan. The victims were identified as Crawford and Eckert both of Wichita.
While the investigation was taking place on the scene, Charles Crawford arrived with a gun pointed at his own head. Officers took cover for safety and immediately requested the assistance of SWAT and Crisis Negotiators. A standoff ensued with Crawford but it ended peacefully when he surrendered and was taken into custody. He remains jailed on a $2 million bond, according to online jail records.
