3 dead after motorcycles collide during poker run

ARTHUR COUNTY, Nebraska — Three people died in A crash just after 12:30p.m Saturday during a poker run fundraiser in a Arthur County.

The Nebraska State Patrol reported the crash involved two motorcycles. First responders located two deceased individuals and a third person with life-threatening injuries.

Preliminary investigation has shown that the two motorcycles were traveling southbound together when one lost control and struck the other motorcycle. The rider of the first motorcycle, Jacob Byrd, 36, of Brownlee, and the passenger of the second motorcycle, Stephanie Rodriquez, 45, of North Platte, were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The rider of the second motorcycle, Michael Laack, 52, of North Platte, was transported to Ogallala Community Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The crash occured during the Kal-Kan and Scooter Memorial Poker Run. 

The Nebraska State Patrol is conducting a full crash reconstruction investigation. Highway 61 was closed for approximately five hours during the on-scene investigation.
