Juvenile faces charges for allegedly starting Kan. house fire

LYON COUNTY–A juvenile is under investigation for setting a house fire in Emporia.

Just before 4:30pm Saturday, September 20, the Emporia Fire Department responded to a reported house fire in the 1100 block of Constitution Street in Emporia, according to a media release. Fire crews encountered an active fire within the home and acted swiftly to bring the incident under control.

After the fire was out, the Emporia Fire Department's Fire Investigators conducted a thorough investigation into the cause and origin of the fire. Based on evidence collected, the fire has been classified as incendiary, indicating it was intentionally set.

Intentionally set fires represent a significant threat to life, property, and public safety. The Emporia Fire Department remains committed to diligently investigating such incidents to identify those responsible and ensure public safety.

As a result of the investigation, a juvenile has been referred to the Lyon County Attorney’s Office for possible charges. Due to the individual’s age, authorities released no additional details.
