LEAVENWORTH COUNTY—A Kansas man died in an accident just after 9p.m. Sunday in Leavenworth County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2021 Jeep Renegade driven by Eric Lee Karpierz, 19, Lansing, was eastbound in 18000 Block Eisenhower Road five and and one half miles west of Lansing.
The Jeep traveled left of center at a high rate of speed and struck a westbound 2012 Suzuki 250X driven by Eric Lee Chappell, 40, Leavenworth.
Both vehicles traveled to the east and came to a rest in the ditch north of Eisenhower Road.
Chappell was pronounced dead at the scene. Karpierz and a 17-year-old passenger in the Jeep were properly restrained and not injured. Chappell was not wearing a helmet, according to the KHP.
