SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities investigating a double homicide have a suspect in custody.
Just after 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, police were dispatched to a home in the 1100N. Woodrow in reference to an unknown call for EMS. A witness had called 911 dispatch and said that they were dropping off their child at an in-home daycare and saw the two victims through a window, according to Officer Kris Guplian.
Fire and EMS arrived on the scene and pronounced the victims identified as 50-year-old Vanessa Crawford and 58-year-old Donald Eckert both of Wichita deceased.
Preliminary investigations revealed that both victims sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
While the investigation was taking place at the home, 62-year-old Charles Crawford arrived with a gun pointed at his own head. Officers took cover for safety and immediately requested the assistance of SWAT and Crisis Negotiators. A standoff ensued with Crawford but it ended peacefully when he surrendered and was taken into custody. He is being held on requested charges of first degree murder, according to online jail records.
