RENO COUNTY—Police arrested a Hutchinson man after police say he fired a handgun at an officer near the Porter Commons Apartments in Hutchinson, according to a media release from police. No one was injured.
Just before 9p.m. Tuesday, 49-year-old Jesse Taylor approached an officer sitting in a parked patrol vehicle at 1403 E. 11th Avenue, according to a statement from Hutchinson Police.
Police said Taylor had visible blood on him, told the officer he had a firearm and displayed it. When the officer gave him commands, Taylor ran toward the apartment complex at 1415 Katie Drive.
A second officer found Taylor in the apartment parking lot. Police said Taylor fired at that officer as the officer gave him verbal commands, striking an unoccupied vehicle nearby. The officer took cover, and Taylor left the area. Officers found him shortly afterward and took him into custody. Police said they recovered a firearm and a knife near where he was arrested.
During a search of Taylor’s residence, officers found a dead dog with lacerations and apparent gunshot wounds, according to the department.
Taylor was arrested on requested charges of attempted capital murder of a law enforcement officer, two counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, felony interference, malicious killing of an animal, criminal damage and unlawful discharge of a firearm. The allegations have not been proven in court.
