Cleanup continues at train derailment in McPherson County

MCPHERSON COUNTY—Cleanup work continued Monday at the site of the train derailment in McPherson County.

Main Street and 14th Avenue were back open, according to the sheriff's department. Iron Horse and 14th Avenue on the north and south end of the train tracks will remain closed until further notice, according the McPherson County Fire Department.

Crews worked through the night off loading contents from the rail cars.

Around 10 a.m. Sunday, approximately 12 cars on a Union Pacific train derailed inside the CHS Refinery on the western edge of McPherson,  according to Union Pacific spokesperson Robynn Tyvser.

As a result, two rail cars carrying alcohol were involved in the derailment. No one was injured, according to Tyvser. No waterways were impacted. A HAZMAT team was on site. There was also a small grass fire. The cause of the incident is under investigation.

MCPHERSON COUNTY —Authorities in McPherson County were at the scene of a Union Pacific train derailment and working to clean up a leak of "denatured alcohol," according to a media release McPherson County 911.
