
DOUGLAS COUNTY —Law enforcement are investigating a fatal hit-and-run and asking the public for help to identify a vehicle.
The incident involving a pedestrian occurred Thursday evening just north of Lawrence in the 1700 block of E 1500 Road, according to Sheriff's Department Spokesman Officer George Diepenbrock.
A passerby notified dispatchers at 3:35 a.m. Friday upon finding a person near the road. When deputies responded, they determined the person had died. Deputies have determined the person was struck around 6 p.m. Thursday.
Upon processing the scene, deputies were able to identify the person who died as a 20-year-old Lawrence woman. Deputies believe she had been running in the area before she was struck by a vehicle.
Detectives are following leads regarding a suspected driver of the vehicle involved. The sheriff's office did not release the name of the victim.
