KANSAS CITY —Law enforcement investigating a homicide in Kansas City have identified the victim as 19-year-old Diego Lopez-Hernandez, according to KCPD Officer Alayna Gonzalez.
Just after 2a.m. Tuesday, police were dispatched to the 3700 block of St. John Avenue on a reported shooting.
Upon arrival, no shooting victims were immediately located at the scene. While officers were speaking with bystanders in the area, they were notified a shooting victim. later identified as Lopez-Hernandez, arrived by a private vehicle at an area hospital. The victim was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Further investigation revealed the incident may have occurred at a separate location near Sunrise Drive and Cliff Drive Place.
Just after 6a.m. detectives were notified by hospital staff Lopez-Hernandez had been pronounced deceased. There is currently no preliminary information regarding what lead up to the shooting. A subject of interest has not been identified and no one is in custody at this time.
