HUTCHINSON — The voters of Reno County approved a special question on the expansion of the Board of County Commissioners from three to five members Tuesday. The vote was 4,164 for and 3,555 against expansion.

Proponents of the expansion feel that the rural areas of the county will get more representation.

The Hutchinson Community Foundation expressed support for the change, as did former county commissioner and KWBW newsman Dan Deming in a Hutchinson News column prior to election day.

It is the intent of the current three commissioners to have the two newly created seats filled in the November 2022 general election.

The final election canvass is November 9.
