FRANKLIN COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating after a violent incident involving two dogs and their owners.
Just before 1p.m. Saturday, police responded to report of a dog involved in attack on another dog in the 500 Block of North Cherry in Ottawa, according to a media release from Ottawa Police.
When officers arrived, they observed the owner of the attacking dog attempting to get the dog back into it own yard.
The dog broke free from its collar and the owner and charged toward the officer. The officer retreated about 30 feet. When the dog was five feet away, the officer shot the dog. The officer was not injured.
The animal was transported a local veterinary hospital. Police issued the dog's owner multiple citations including Pitbull prohibited in city limits, harboring a vicious animal, animal at large and no city registration.
Police issued the owner of the other dog a citation for no city registration and no proof of vaccination.
