Kansas City fire crews drive through gunfire on the way to a call

KANSAS CITY —Law enforcement are investigating after fire crews in Kansas City  encountered gunfire on the way to a call.

Just before noon Wednesday, while responding to a call at 55th and Prospect, a Kansas City Fire Department pumper drove into the vicinity of gun fire while heading to their call, according to Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins. 

Preliminary information indicates there was indeed an exchange of gunfire between individuals in the area, according to KCPD Officer Alayna Gonzalez. Fire crews believed their pumper had been struck.

Police responded to assist and the initial investigation revealed there were no injuries to any Kansas City Fire Department staff. Police and fire officials have also not found any damage to KCFD property.
