NORTH PLATTE, Neb. — A former deputy sheriff in Dodge County, Neb., who was convicted of running a Ponzi scheme has been found dead on the day he was supposed to be sentenced.

Former deputy Craig Harbaugh was set to be sentenced in federal court in Omaha on Friday.

Authorities said Harbaugh was found dead in his home Friday morning. Foul play is not suspected and an autopsy has been ordered.

Harbaugh was convicted of defrauding a bank and several individuals out of nearly $11 million but provided false purchase orders and service contracts for his business which sold tactical gear for law enforcement.

Harbaugh was facing up to 20 years in prison and hefty fines.

Authorities say Harbaugh was employed by the sheriff's office while he ran the Ponzi scheme.
