Kan. man dead after wrong-way crash, fire on Kan. Turnpike

SHAWNEE COUNTY —One person died in an accident just after 1a.m.  Monday on the Kansas Turnpike in Shawnee County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2022 Freightliner semi driven by Harsh Batish, 22, Winnipeg, Manitoba, was southbound  on Interstate 335 and struck a 2015 Mercedes M-Class driven by Michael Goering, 72, Topeka, who was northbound in the southbound lanes of the turnpike.  After impact both vehicles caught fire. 

Goering was pronounced dead at the scene. Batish and a passenger in the semi were not injured.  The drivers were properly restrained, according to the KHP.
