⚾ Monarchs sweep Holcomb to move to 4-0

HOLCOMB – The Thomas More Prep-Marian baseball team picked up a couple of run-rule wins over Holcomb Thursday. The Monarchs pull away late in a 16-0 win in the opener then strike early in their 14-1 game two victory. The Monarchs improve to 4-0 with all four games decided by run-rule.

Game 1: TMP-Marian 16, Holcomb 0 (6 innings)
The Monarchs led 4-0 after three innings then put the game away with a three-run fifth and nine-run sixth inning.

Mark Rack had three of the Monarchs 10 hits and drove in three runs, two of them on a triple in the sixth inning.

Jace Wentling went 2-for-2 with two walks and scored three runs.

Caden Morgan drove in two runs. He also struck out 10 with one walk over five innings on the mound for the victory.

Game 2: TMP-Marian 14, Holcomb 0 (5 innings)
The Monarchs took control early, scoring five runs in the top of the first inning then added two in the second, three in the third and fourth then capped the scoring with a run in the fifth.

Jace Wentling opened the game with a solo homer to right field. Mark Rack, Caden Morgan, Nicholas Herrman and Bryce Conner strung together four straight hits. Morgan’s single drove in Nick Helget who reached on a base hit earlier in the frame. Herrman’s single knocked in Rack and Conner single scored Morgan and Herrman.

Wentling finished with three hits, a walk, two RBIs and four runs scored. Conner finished 3-for-3 with three RBI. Morgan drove in three runs and Chet Irvin knocked in two.

Mark Rack picked up the win on the mound. He allowed one run on four hits with four strikeouts and two walks over four innings. Nicholas Herrman struck out three to close out the game in the fifth.
