Kansas home a total loss after fire on Father's Day

SHAWNEE COUNTY—Authorities are working to determine the cause of a fire that destroyed a Kansas home.

Just before 7p.m. Sunday, fire crews were dispatched to a house fire 509 NE Paramore Street in Topeka, according to Fire Marshal Alan Stahl.

As they arrived, fire crews observed heavy fire and smoke coming from several sides of the home. Crews initially started a defensive fire attack and eventually transitioning to an offensive fire attack. 

The occupants were not home.  The estimated total damage is $26,390 a total loss; $25,890 loss. There were no injuries. There were no working smoke detectors in the home, according to Stahl.
