
SEDGWICK COUNTY –The Wichita Police Department has arrested a 50-year-old woman for Aggravated Child Endangerment, stemming from the shooting investigation of a 4-year-old girl.
Just before 2p.m. Friday, police responded to the 2500 block of E. Harry in Wichita following reports of a shooting, according to Officer Kris Gupilan.
First responders a 4-year-old girl who had sustained a single gunshot wound to her lower torso. She was immediately transported to a local hospital and was still in critical condition early Saturday, according to Gupilan.
After preliminary investigation, it was found that the child's guardian, identified in Sedgwick County booking records as Ana Rosa Sorto, left a firearm unsecured, allowing the child to access it, resulting in the child unintentionally shooting themselves.
This remains an active investigation. The case will be presented to the District Attorney for formal charges.
