KANSAS CITY —One person and a pet died in an accident just after 4p.m. Saturday in Kansas City.
A black GMC Yukon was westbound on East 27th Street at Prospect Avenue in Kansas City, at a very high rate of speed, according to KCPD Officer Alayna Gonzalez.
The driver lost control of the SUV. It traveled off the roadway to the right, shearing off a large wooden utility pole and striking a large metal utility pole.
The vehicle burst into flames after impact with the metal pole. As the vehicle exploded, debris struck and damaged three other vehicles that were stopped at the red traffic signal, facing west on East 27th at Prospect.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Gonzalez. A puppy that was inside the vehicle was ejected out and also pronounced dead at the scene.
Power was lost in the area and Evergy worked to restore the power. Police have not released the name of the driver or additional details.
