36-year-old woman serving time for murder dies in Kan. prison

Topeka Correctional Facility inmate 36-year-old Asa Hashanna Adams  died Saturday, according to a statement from the Kansas Department of Corrections.

She was found unresponsive in her living unit Saturday morning. Staff began life-saving measures immediately and continued after emergency medical services arrived. Adams was pronounced deceased by medical staff.  The cause of death is pending the results of an independent autopsy.

Adams was serving a life sentence for a conviction of first-degree murder committed in Sedgwick County, Kansas.

Per protocol, when a resident dies in the custody of the KDOC, the death is under investigation by the KDOC and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
